Our Canada Bed and BreakfastRecipes

You've served savoury all week and your guests can handle some calories! Here's an easy and very delicious french toast to serve your guests. They love it and the corn flakes crumbs MAKE the recipe!

French Toast Sundae

8 eggs
1-1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
12 slices egg [challah] bread, sliced 1 in. thick
1-1/2 cup corn flakes, crushed
assortment of fresh sliced fruit in season I almost always use raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and blackberries, sometimes add peaches in season
Maple syrup
Powdered sugar
Whipped cream

Preheat griddle to 350.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk eggs, milk, and heavy cream until well combined. This allows the heavy cream to almost whip to a light batter. Add the vanilla. Pour the mixture through a strainer to remove egg excess. Add nutmeg. Dip the bread into mixture. Dip both sides of bread into the corn flakes. Repeat with all slices. Grease griddle with butter and cook bread until golden brown on both sides. Place two slices on a plate and top with fruit. Dust with powdered sugar. Add a dollop of whipped cream. Put maple syrup on the table for those who want it.

I serve this with the fruit built up to a peak topped with the whipping cream and with back bacon, and decorate the white plate with a sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar around the edges and with different sizes of heart shaped watermelon[or other melon] cut from cookie cutters . Add a sprig of mint from the garden and voila!
It's simple and simply yummy!
