5 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
8 slices French bread, cut 1 and a 1/2" thick
5 cups loose pack frozen strawberries or raspberries
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Method
Mix together stirred eggs, milk & vanilla. Dip the bread into egg mix for
about 30 seconds on each side. Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and
let stand for about 10 minutes to absorb the egg.
Heat oven to 450 degrees. Grease a 13x9x2" glass baking dish. Spread frozen
berries evenly over bottom of the dish.
In a small bowl, combine sugar & cinnamon. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of this over
berries. With a spatula, carefully place bread slices over the berries. Sprinkle
the remaining sugar over the bread.
Bake 15 minutes or until the bread is golden brown. (Bake for 5 minutes more if necessary).
To serve, use a spatula to place on slice of bread on a plate, then spoon some berries and syrup on top. Makes 8 servings.
I am going to try it with baguettes so I would get more small pieces, and also I will split it into 2 round glass pie plates as I sometimes have one couple come down later than the others.
