Adventure Awaits in British Columbia

British Columbia has a reputation for being a wild wilderness, but this coastal province is also home to modern, cosmopolitan cities like Vancouver and mid-sized towns like Victoria.

The Metro Vancouver area houses half of BC’s population, with 17 Indian reserves in the region. The second-highest population of BC residents is at the southern tip of Vancouver Island.

From unspoiled nature to the spoils of city living, British Columbia has something for virtually every traveler.

And with a thriving tourism sector, the province offers accommodations for every traveling style, from chalets to lodges, motels, bed and breakfasts and camping facilities.

Tour the vineyards of the Okanagan region or get lost in the beauty of Glacier National Park. The province is home to seven of the country’s national parks, including: Kootenay, Gulf Islands, Yoho, Mount Revelstoke, Gwaii Haanas and the Pacific Rim.

British Columbia remains virtually untouched by man in most parts of the region, allowing species of mammals rare in other parts of the world to flourish in the wilderness. From birds to wolves, coyotes and fish, visitors won’t step foot outside the city without seeing some type of wildlife.

Nature lovers flock to BC for its pristine landscape, but history buffs fly in to learn more about the province’s rich past. The area is home to more than 200 First Nations which have a deep and rich connection to the province. A significant percentage of indigenous languages is spoken here.

BC was also the site of several gold rushes, including the Cariboo Gold Rush of 1862.

Outdoor adventure await in BC’s vast wilderness. In the warm summer months, travelers enjoy kayaking, whitewater rafting and sailing. In the cold winter months, there are ample opportunities for telemark and cross-country skiing.

From mountain biking to jogging, horseback riding, hiking and everything in between, BC can satisfy your lust for adventure.
